Day ??? - The Wrap Up

I realized I never gave a final wrap up to the blog.  Being the ego maniac that I am, I wanted to convert the blog to print so I could laugh at and admire myself for years to come... But I couldn't publish the blog without posting about the final adventure in the title, MAUI!!!

Before I get ahead of myself,  I need to mention a few last things that happened before the adventure to the Aloha State.  Charlie and I celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary... on different sides of the state.  Bummer.  Thankfully I had my Spokane Family (shout out to the Cahalan Crew!) to keep me from getting too bummed out.  Randy and Jodee were kind enough to let me move in to their basement bedroom for a few weeks while I finished up the final class of my law school career.  We worked out a fun routine that included morning chit chat and political analysis with Jodee, So You Think You Can Dance viewing with the Olmstead girls, and late night television with Randy.  I'm not sure what I would have done without their help in the final weeks.  Thanks again for everything guys!

I wrote nearly up to the last minute, but I finished my Advanced Criminal Procedure paper just prior to the final day of class. It wasn't due for another week, go me!  (SPOILER ALERT: I got the highest grade in the class, earning me my first and only coveted CALI Excellence for the Future Award.  Baller.)  Because I am a major CheeseBall, I made Jodee take "last day of school" pictures of me on her patio.

My last law school class was by far my favorite.  We watched some terrible Richard Gere movie and ate donuts and popcorn.  I became unexpectedly sentimental as I looked around the room at some of the friends I'd made over the last two years.  We may not have enjoyed the process, but we survived it together.  That is a bond that cannot be broken.

As the movie credits began to roll, I would be lying if I said a few tears didn't find their way to my cheeks.  With the exception of completing my externship in Seattle, I was done with law school.  With that realization came euphoria.  I grabbed my pal Audrey, skipped down the hall, ran down the stairs two at a time, bolted out the front door and screamed at the top of my lunges "I'M DONE!!!"

The celebration was short lived, as I had to quickly grab the remainder of my belongings and get on the road back to Seattle.  I had a flight to Maui to catch!

This family trip was more fun than I could have ever imagined.  Here's a shot of the whole Muchow-Wilson-Hilen Family.

Chad (Brother), Joey (Cousin), Jared (Cousin), Debi (Aunt), Jeff (Uncle), Moo (Mom), Me, and Charlie (Husband).
Here are a few snap shots of our adventures.

Mmmm... Ruth Chris steak!
Well, there you have it.  A detailed journey of my fat butt trying to make it across the finish line of a marathon, up a mountain, and into a bikini for a family vacation.  (Although I thought I looked pretty darn good, there will be no bikini pics of me on the internet.  Sorry).  Because I am certain I will be the only person to actually ever re-read this epic tale, I'd like to take a moment to address my future self...

Future Katie,

If you are reading this, shouldn't you probably be putting away that mountain of laundry... or exercising... or working on one of your many high profile cases since you are now an amazing attorney?

If you are reading this because you got fat again, shame on you!  There is nothing "wrong" with being fat, but you can do better!  You love to exercise and like to live an active lifestyle.  Put down the fork, put on your running shoes and go conquer the world!

Perhaps you just needed to stop by and remind yourself how awesome you used to be.  Yes, you really did take two law school finals the day before you set out to climb a mountain.  Stop patting yourself on the back.  If you have time to reflect, you have time to set a new goal.  Go be awesome all over again!

If this blog taught you anything, I hope you remember how good it felt to be comfortable laughing at yourself through life's adventures.  When you put your mind to something, chances are you'll succeed.  But should you fail, dust yourself off and have a good laugh.  After all, it can't be worse than the first time you tried Pilates.

Love,

Katie
